THE BLACK TAPE

"CBI told the boulder police that no prints had been found on the black duct tape that                   John Ramsey said he removed from his daughter's mouth…" p. 183, Perfect

"Ramsey cried out a second time, White followed him into the room. By now Ramsey had ripped the tape off his daughter's mouth…." P. 15, Perfect

"Fleet White decided to go back downstairs to the wine cellar where her body had been found… now that there was a light on, he saw a white blanket in the center of the cement floor. A piece of black duct tape was lying on it. He picked up the tape, which felt sticky, and then placed it back on the blanket…" p. 16, Perfect

Why did Fleet White pick up this piece of tape? Did he not realize it was evidence? If he indicated it "felt sticky" he must have held it in such a way as to have left a fingerprint. If so, why didn't the CBI find the print? Why didn't they find John Ramsey's fingerprint on the tape? Was the tape the CBI tested definitely the original piece of tape? Or did someone switch the tape after john or Fleet touched it? Would Fleet White have a reason to switch the tape?

Why is this called duct tape? All the duct tape I have ever seen has been silver.

The taping of JonBenet's mouth appears to have been part of the staging of evidence. If this is true why didn't the murderer use masking tape as was used in the Clutter family murders (the staging of the JB murder closely mimics that of the Clutter crime scene in many ways)? Was the color of the tape significant?

THE OPEN BASEMENT WINDOW

John Ramsey went down to the basement at about 10:00 am and saw that

The broken window in the train room was opened. He closed it and noted the

                suitcase under it.

Why did he close the window? Didn't it occur to him that this might have been the

way someone could have gotten in? Why didn't he tell someone about the suitcase?

Officer French had searched the basement upon his arrival.

Did he notice the open and broken window?

Fleet White went to the basement around 6:30 am to search for JB. He found some lights turned on. He saw the suitcase in Burke's train room under the broken and unlatched (but unopened) window and picked up small pieces of glass off the floor and placed them on the window sill. He moved the suitcase a few feet to more closely look at the window.

Did he open the window as he inspected it? And then closed it? Or did he leave it alone? Could the wind have blown it open by the time John saw it at 10:00 am?

How many feet is a few? 2-3-4 feet? Why did he feel that it should be moved?

THE WINE CELLAR

When Fleet White first searched the basement at about 6:30 am he looked into the wine cellar and saw nothing in the pitch black room. Later, around 1:00 pm, John Ramsey looked into the same room and saw his daughter wrapped in a white blanket.

Why didn't Fleet White see JB? Could it have been that as he entered the furnace area the sun was rising (that room being on the east exposure) and sunlight penetrated the room through a window or the same duct that could have carried the reported 2:00 am scream? His eyes may not have adjusted to the difference in light levels as he looked into the dark wine cellar. Has anyone tried this just after waking and later in the day?
